Thinking of donating books to NIE Library?
NIE Library may occasionally accept physical book donations that support NIE’s teaching, learning and research needs.
All offers of book donation will be carefully reviewed against our selection criteria to ensure relevance and suitability.
Items Generally Not Accepted
Heavily annotated, scribbled on and/or highlighted
Worn or damaged (e.g: torn and/or missing pages, stained, water-damaged, etc.)
Containing controversial and/or explicit content
Outdated with no historical or research significance
Marked with ownership from other libraries or institutions
Written in foreign languages
Already in library collection
Guidelines for specific types of items:

Academic Books | Scientific and technical works more than 5 years old |
Textbooks, Workbooks & Assessment Books | Generally not accepted, except those with historical or research significance |
Children’s Books | Odd-sized or non-standard format books |
Scholarly Journals, magazines & newspapers | Generally not accepted, except for items with historical value or related to Singapore education |
Others | Photocopies, outdated media formats (CD-ROM, VCD, DVD), outdated content, loose-leaf or ring bound works, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, annual reports |
* The above list is not exhaustive. Other items may be declined if they are deemed unsuitable for the Library.
Important:
NIE Library reserves the right to decline or dispose of donated items that do not meet our criteria, unless donors specifically request non-accepted items be returned.
The Library does not provide for the collection or delivery of donated items (except for items located within NIE Blocks 1 to 7).
All transport arrangements and costs must be borne by the donor.
Donated items are not eligible for income tax relief.
How to donate items to NIE Library
For 20 items or less, submit a donation form.
For more than 20 items or other related enquiries, please contact libacq@nie.edu.sg before making any arrangements.
For NIE staff or faculty donating their own publications, please contact libacq@nie.edu.sg before making any arrangements.
