New Databases

The following new databases, courtesy of NTU Libraries, are now accessible to NIE staff and students:

Arcadian Library Online

The Arcadian Library Online provides access to online reproductions of rare books, documents and manuscripts held at the Arcardian Library. Topics covered include travel accounts, history of science and medicine, literature, history etc. 

Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Philosophers

The Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Philosophers features critical biographical entries on individuals who have contributed to the history of thought and philosophy. Entries include a comprehensive overview of a subject’s life, work, and reception together with a bibliography and list of further reading.

Emerging Sources Citation Index via Web of Science

The ESCI provides earlier visibility for sources under evaluation as part of the journal selection process for Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Journals indexed in the ESCI will not receive Impact Factors. However, the citations from the ESCI will be included in the citation counts for the Journal Citation Reports, therefore contributing to the Impact Factors of other journals.

IET eBooks

IET eBooks contains over 450 titles covering subject areas such as power, renewable energy, control, telecommunications, circuits and electromagnetic waves published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). 

IET eJournals Archive

IET e-Journals Archive comprises the complete collection of research journals and magazines published by the IET from 1872-2006, covering subject areas such as electrical and electronic engineering, telecommunications, computing, power, control, radar, circuits and materials. is a collection of over 10,000 original engineering and technology videos from a range of leading engineering and technology events, lectures, seminars, conferences, interviews etc. The content, owned and developed by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), features key academic and practicing engineers, and technologists from around the world, who are specialists in their fields.


Reaxys is a web-based search and retrieval system for chemical compunds, bibliographic data and chemical reactions. It comprises Beilstein, Gemlin and Patent Chemistry Databases. Reaxys provides access to validated experiemtnal reactions and substance data together with ranking and filtering, analysis and a synthesis planning tool. A search across Reaxys delivers a single results set and each record provides details excerpted from multiple patent or journal sources. Register for a free account to gain access to special features, such as alerts and saved searches.

Screen Studies

Screen Studies is a digital platform that offers a collection of screenplays, critical and contextual books on film from the late 19th century to the present.
