NIE Staff

The NIE Library houses a collection of approximately 500,000 volumes and subscribes to about 44,000 journals, with a strong emphasis on education. Members are encouraged to make full use of the wide range of library and information services. More information on library resources and services can be found on NIE Library's website.

Registration / Membership

Full-time academic and non-academic staff are required to register at the Service Point on Level 2 with their staff card. Part-time teaching staff must register with their letter of appointment.
Membership registration at the counter is only available Monday - Friday from 8.30am - 4.30pm.

Library Membership Number & PIN

Staff members are required to key in their library membership number and PIN when accessing some of the services available on the WebOPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). These services include viewing of borrower information / holds / outstanding balance, cancellation of holds and loan renewals. For full-time staff, the membership number is your NRIC or FIN number. For part-time teaching staff, the membership number is the barcode number on your library card. The PIN assigned to all staff members is the last 4 alphanumeric characters of their NRIC or FIN or Passport number. You are strongly advised to change the assigned PIN through the WebOPAC.

Library Notifications

Staff members will receive library notifications by e-mail. It is the responsibility of staff to keep track of the due dates of their loans by checking their records regularly through the WebOPAC. After logging into your account, you may view / renew items borrowed, cancel holds and check for outstanding fines. Non-receipt of reminder is not a valid reason for waiver of fines, if any.

General Library Rules

  • Mobile phones should be switched to silent or off mode. Only texting is allowed.
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted in the library.
  • Only food and drinks purchased from the cafe can be consumed within the LearningHub area.
  • Mutilation and theft of library materials are serious offences. Appropriate action will be taken against offenders.
  • All library users should dress appropriately and conduct themselves with decorum.

Locating Materials

Library materials are classified according to the Library of Congress (LC) Classification Scheme. Use the WebOPAC to locate materials and note down the location and call number of the book.
